The Supreme court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to decide the representation of Mathaiyan seeking premature release from prison within 4 weeks take decision on the same. Mathaiyan is the elder brother of slain forest brigand Veerappan. He is in Salem Central Prison as a life convict since 1997 charged for the offences of murder, causing hurt to deter public servants from performing duties, and dacoity.
